Registration for the Fall Bootcamp Program is now open

The 7th round of the Monticello Bootcamp program is set to begin September 18th, with registration opening August 1st.  The program, which provides participants a "snapshot" of areas to consider when opening or running a business, is centered around the creation of a business plan, something every business is encouraged to have, no matter the experience level, life or type.  Subjects covered include legal setup, taxes and payroll, credit and lending, commercial real estate leases, social media marketing, advertising, branding, and insurance.

Participants are welcome to attend any and all classes, no matter their residency, or where there are in the small business process.  "Since its inception in 2015, we've had over 130 individuals participate in the 6 rounds of the program, from various stages of their small business development- long-time business owners, up-and-coming, and even 'dreamers,' who just are testing the waters," says Callie McFarland, program coordinator and Director of Community Development for the City of Monticello.

Those interested in opening a business in Monticello are also encouraged to apply for a $5,000 reimbursable grant that would offset the costs of rent/mortgage and utility costs.

The program was created through the brain trust of McFarland and former Monticello Main Street Director, Kerry Redshaw, as an effort to fill empty downtown buildings with new businesses.  Both McFarland and Redshaw continue to consult with other communities and organizations of all sizes, on the importance of small business development and fostering entrepreneurial opportunities.  "We found that as a result, not only did we gain incredible interest in our downtown, but through the program, we were able to facilitate the network that the participants created.  They support each other, feed off each other and overall have a stronger business community because of it," says McFarland.

Classes meet for 5 weeks on Tuesday evenings, 6pm - 9pm at the Monticello Livingston Center.  Participation is free, but registration is required at  For questions, please contact Callie McFarland at, or 762.2583 x28.
