What is a Food Packaging Project?
A food packaging project is a volunteer event in which ingredients are combined into a bag and heat sealed shut to produce a product that is suitable for distribution through food banks, feeding programs and food pantries.  The most common product packaged in these projects is a fortified meal designed by food scientists to fight hunger all around the world, but events are also facilitated to package other meal recipes or single ingredients.

Food packaging is accomplished through a team effort with ten volunteers who work as an assembly line.  The Monticello project will have 200 volunteers (15 tables) working at the same time, three different shifts.  Finished bags of meals are packed in cardboard boxes and stacked on pallets to be distributed to Piatt County Food Pantries and the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.
