The City of Monticello, Illinois is currently accepting applications for the position of Electrician.  Under general supervision, installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus and electrical and electronic components of municipal machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner to meet electrical codes. The ability to assist with all phases of Public Works operations to include but not limited to the following: water treatment plant and water distribution system, waste water treatment plant and waste water collection system including sanitary sewer lift stations and appurtenances, drainage maintenance, maintenance and repair at the Monticello Family Aquatic Center and other recreational facilities, street and sidewalk maintenance, and any other duties of the Public Works Department, as assigned.

The minimum requirements for this position are; a High school diploma, plus 5 years of electrical experience meeting or exceeding the essential functions as described in the job description. The applicant must have a valid Illinois driver’s license with CDL-Class B, and Air Brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain CDL-Class B, and Air Brake endorsement within six months of hire date, and must be willing to live within a twelve (12) mile radius of City Hall. Applicants should possess working knowledge of electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of municipal machinery and equipment such as pumps, motors, and generators, lift stations and/or pump stations, working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern electrical installation, repair, and maintenance, and working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities

Status:                  Full Time; Non-Exempt


GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus and electrical and electronic components of municipal machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner to meet electrical codes. The ability to assist with all phases of Public Works operations to include but not limited to the following: water treatment plant and water distribution system, waste water treatment plant and waste water collection system including sanitary sewer lift stations and appurtenances, drainage maintenance, maintenance and repair at the Monticello Family Aquatic Center and other recreational facilities, street and sidewalk maintenance, and any other duties of the Public Works Department, as assigned.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position works under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director and ultimately reports to the City Administrator.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The list of tasks is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by this position.

1. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for building and equipment electrical systems.  Maintains all existing electrical systems to meet any statutory requirements and to meet any safety standards required.  .

2. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, controls and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken parts, wires and cables.  Performs any tests necessary to ensure safety

3. Plans and coordinates layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus in buildings.

4. Diagnoses and coordinates the replacement of faulty mechanical and electrical components of machines and equipment.

           5. Maintains all traffic signals and City owned street lights and appurtenances.
           6. Provides emergency on-site assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate
           7. Assists in the preparation of bid specifications if necessary for electrical out sourcing needs.
           8. Assists in the preparation and administration of budgets in conformance with adopted policies and procedures.
           9. Provides vacation and temporary relief as needed and assists other departments as needed, i.e. snow removal, brush/landscape waste pick-up, and etc.
          10. Checks City buildings and grounds and maintains electrical, HVAC, fire extinguishers, and other items within these facilities as assigned.
          11. Uses safety equipment, where required and safely operates all City equipment.
          12. Follows all safety procedures to include but not limited to Lock Out-Tag Out procedures.  Safety shoes are required at all times.
          13. Reports any safety hazards to the Director of Public Works, immediately. 

          14. Performs related duties as required.
          15. Performs other duties as assigned, to include emergency and weekend duties.


QUALIFICATIONS:

           pecial Qualifications:

            3. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal           maintenance and repair activities.

            4. Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern       electrical installation, repair, and maintenance.

            5. Ability to establish and maintain effective preventative maintenance programs, policies, and procedure.

            6. Ability to maintain effective accounting procedures.

            7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

            10. Knowledge of spreadsheets including Microsoft Excel.

            11. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.

            2. Must report any accidents to the Finance and Human Resources Director within 24       hours of accident and assists in filling out any necessary paperwork.
