The City of Monticello offers curbside brush pickup at residences located within the city limits, free of charge. Pickup will take place on or around the first Tuesday of every month, March through October. Brush pickup for 2023 will begin on Tuesday, March 7th (WEATHER DEPENDENT).
The following guidelines apply:
- Only brush will be picked up - no grass clippings, tree stumps, landscape timbers, or building material of any kind will be accepted.
- Material may not be more than 6' in length or 12" in diameter.
- Material must be piled in one direction, parallel with the street, away from obstructions such as fences, mailboxes, water meters, parked cars, and fire hydrants.
If any material outside of the parameters described above is found, city staff will leave a door hanger notifying the resident that corrective action is needed.
If you have a significant quantity of landscape material to be picked up, you are encouraged to contact the Public Works Department by phone at (217) 762-7512, or email so they can make arrangements to have the appropriate equipment available.
Leaf pickup begins in November. Bagged leaves will be picked up every Tuesday throughout the season. Leaves must be in paper landscape waste bags and placed curbside.
The city will also pick up non-artificial Christmas trees (all ornaments and decorations must be removed). Tree pickup typically begins the week after Christmas and may continue for two to three weeks. Check the city's homepage, social media and the local newspaper for specific dates each year.
